    The ppdev patch for 2.2.x doesn't do transfers in hardware-assisted modes,
    but ppdev in 2.3.x can. Perhaps you'd like to try that, or else fiddle
    around with the timings in the 2.2.x ppdev.c to see what works for you
    (please let me know the results).
