Hello,
I use a Toshiba-Laptop with a Toshiba 'Flipdisk'.
It has an adapter signed 'PT-IDE' with an
'OnSpec 90c26 parallel to IDE adapter chip.
I know, it's not good to say, but with W98 it
runs very well.
With linux happens this :
First I load the modules : paride, on26 and pd.
insmod paride
insmod on26
insmod pd verbose=5
What I get, is this :
Jun 22 06:14:02 cal kernel: paride: version 1.04 installed
Jun 22 06:14:09 cal kernel: paride: on26 registered as protocol 0
Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pd: pd version 1.05, major 45, cluster

Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: on26: port 0x3bc, mode 1,
test=(255,255)
Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: 0x378 is parport0
Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: on26: port 0x378, mode 0,

Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: on26: port 0x378, mode 2,

Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: on26: port 0x378, mode 3,

Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: on26: port 0x378, mode 4,
test=(255,255)
Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: Sharing parport0 at 0x378
Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: on26 1.04, OnSpec 90c26 at 0x378,

Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: TOSHIBA MK1301, master, 2654064
blocks [1295M],(2633/16/63), fixed media
Jun 22 06:15:03 cal kernel: pda: pda1 < pda5 >
I can mount the 'pda5' partition, but when I want to use it,
the system stops, mostly with no return ( "RESET" ).
The protocol said :
Jun 22 06:16:05 cal kernel: pda: do_pd_write_drg: status = 0x14444 =
ECC READY ABRT UNC TMO
Jun 22 06:16:45 cal last message repeated 2 times
Jun 22 06:17:03 cal kernel: pda: do_pd_write_drg: status = 0x14444 =
ECC READY ABRT UNC TMO
Jun 22 06:17:04 cal kernel: pda: OUCH: request list changed
unexpectedly
Jun 22 06:19:02 cal kernel: pda: do_pd_write_drg: status = 0x14444 =
ECC READY ABRT UNC TMO
Jun 22 06:20:04 cal kernel: pda: do_pd_write_drg: status = 0x14444 =
ECC READY ABRT UNC TMO
Jun 22 06:21:42 cal last message repeated 17 times
AND THEN THERE IS NO WAY, ONLY 'reset' ( I hate it ! ).
I use a standard 2.2.14 Kernel, and while the test, there is nothing
else running.
I hope someone has made better experience then me.
Who can give me an advice ?
mike
