    Hi all,

I've been battling to get an HP 5100C going and I am almost there.

ppscsi and epst are compiled into a 2.4.2 kernel.

sane 1.0.4 backend, frontend and xsane are installed.

I have finally been able to get xscanimage and xsane to recognise the scanner
after lots of searching and close regard to the FAQs.

Unfortunately I can only scan in black and white. Everything else leads to
    device I/O errors.

    i.e. I can type scanimage > test
But, e.g. scanimage --mode Color > test leads to device errors.

B&W speed is incredibly fast. I have seen it work once scanning color and it
was incredibly slow (it scans forward about a centimetre and then moves back
    about 2/3).

Well I really hope someone can help.

    Regards,
    Adam
