    Configuration:
Microsolutions Series 6 Backpack hard drive; last 2 digits of S/N are "38"
    Connecting via parallel port cable
    new HP Vetra P3-800

    BIOS
     port set to EPP
     I/O port 0x378, IRQ 7

    Standard Red Hat v6.2

I can run "insmod parport" without problems
    (with /etc/conf.modules)
    (alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc)
    (options parport_pc io=0x378 irq=7, auto)
    Output: Using /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/misc/parport.o

I don't know if I need to use the IRQ or not but I have tried both ways and
    neither work.

    Next, "insmod paride"
    output: Using /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/misc/paride.o
    dmesg: paride: version 1.04 installed

    Next, "insmod paride"
    output: Using /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/misc/bpck.o
dmesg: paride: bpck registered as protocol 0

But when I try "insmod pd verbose=1 drive0=0x378,0,38"
    output: Using /lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/misc/pd.o
/lib/modules/2.2.14-5.0/misc/pd.o: init_module: Device or resource busy
    dmesg:
pd: pd version 1.05, major 45, cluster 64, nice 0
    parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP,PS2,EPP]
    parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present.
    pda: 0x378 is parport0
    pda: Adapter not found
    pd: no valid drive found

In the beginning, I had to turn off lpd, since "insmod sd" was hanging at
this point when the lp module was in the kernel. While testing different pd
module settings, I have to run "insmod lp; rmmod lp" to unstick it.

What else needs to be set or configured to get this to work?

The only other thing I can do is have the drive connected to a Windows system
and see if it works that way.
