OK, the computer boots with LPT enabled:
lssuperio V0.65 (EXPERIMENTAL)

This is somewhat confusing because after booting with the regular

lssuperio V0.65 (EXPERIMENTAL)

which claims to be a different superio chip. However the main point is
that LPT is enabled by the bios and disabled during the regular boot.

this is a regular PC. I renamed the irda-module, but that didn't help.
This machine has a usb keyboard, but I always get a few console messages
about a missing AT keyboard. Likewise, the audio system is functional,
but produces a lot of warnings and error messages - perhaps there are
some unnecessary modules being loaded. However, lsmod seems to list
things that I expect to be there...
Kind regards,
