    You could have a look at lcd4linux, we do not only drive LCD Displays,
    but also so called "GPO's" (general purpose output), and we drive'm with
    direct parallel port programming.

    I've got a little thing here, which acts as an interface to a LCD and 8
    LED's. Maybe that's what you're looking for.
