    Howdy,

In addition to the paride pages you have already found, you may want to
check out the our web page:

    http://www.micro-solutions.com/software_library/linux/index.html

Your drive is indeed PROBABLY a series 6 drive; most of the BACKPACK
    rewriters were series 6.

Since 2.4.4 the bpck6 and bpck modules are included in the standard
    Linus kernel.
If you are missing the bpck6 module, you may not have built it when you
compiled the kernel (or mandrake didn't configure it in).

If you decide to "roll your own kernel" the bpck6 option isn't too hard
    to find.
When you do a make menuconfig and have enabled the PARPORT and PARIDE
modules, the option for the bpck6 module is under "Block Devices" in the
main menu. Look for the section titled "Parallel IDE protocol modules".
It's titled "MicroSolutions backpack (series 6) protocol".

If you don't want to re-compile your kernel, you should look to Mandrake
for a kernel package with bpck6. I'm not sure why they wouldn't have it
in by default. (Most newer backpacks are "series 6". It would be a
better option than the old bpck module, if you had to choose just one
    (which you don't).).

    Good Luck,

    Ken Hahn
