There is a simple test to see if ECP support is enabled and working, type
cat /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/modes
if ECP doesn't appear in the response then it either you don't have ECP
support enabled in your parport module or it doesn't recognise your hardware.
If ECP is in the list then ECP support is in your driver and should work. One
option to consider in this case is that te data corruption could be caused by
a faulty cable - do you have access to a spare cable you could swap with?
