[PARPORT] New problem, Microsolutions 800td

First, thanks to all of you for your very fast help with my 800td tape
drive. I finally managed to get the modules to load and /dev/qft0 to register.
I'm running ftape-4.02 on a 2.0.33 kernel, and I downloaded and setup the
modutils-2.1.85.

My new problem is that many of the ftape-tools utilities can't write to
/dev/qft0 nor can tar (this is not a files permission problem -- the
permissions are 'rw' and I am root):

Here are some programs and responses:

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

>ftmt -f /dev/qft0 status
This is a Iomega 250, Ditto 800 floppy tape drive, (drive type = 0x8880)
drive status = 0x00009805
generic drive status = 0x01000000
(In particular: * tape online * )
sense key error = 0x00000e16
residue count = 0
file number = -1
block number = -1

> ftmt -f /dev/qft0 rewind
ftmt: /dev/qft0: I/O error

>ftmt -f /dev/qft0 erase
ftmt: /dev/qft0: Permission denied

> tar -c main.c -f /dev/qft0
tar: Cannot write to /dev/qft0: Permission denied

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Note, however, that all these programs ellicit a repsonse from the tape
drive (light flashing) though none of them seem to make the tape itself
make any noise. Is the drive (Microsolutions 800td) supposed to register
as an Iomega 250 or is this my problem. Any help would be appreicated.

Also I'm doubly subscribed to the list, anyone have any idea how to
unsubscribe once but not twice.

Thanks,
Sheer El-Showk

I've included a summery of my setup if it will help anyone help me:

Using the commands:

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
insmod ftape ft_fdc_driver=bpck-fdc ft_tracings=4,4,4,4,4
insmod zftape
insmod bpck-fdc ft_fdc_irq=5 ft_fdc_base=0x278
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

and receive the messages:
