Tried using lptune and enable interupts? By default printer irqs are not used
by the lp driver because every other bit of hardware thinks that irq 5 & 7 are
a good thing to use. (eg: SB-16 sound card, AARRRGGG!!!)

Win95 would be using the ECP printer driver (correct me if I am wrong). This
form of printing is not supported under Linux (yet, but it is being worked on).

There is a problem with ECP printing in that other parallel port devices may
corrupt a print job if accessed (HP printers + ZIP drive + ECP don't mix if all
three are present).

Anyway, thats my 5 cents worth.

Check http://www.torque.net/parport for all Linux parallel port solutions.

Current project list:
a) Madly fixing up web pages....
b) Maintain Linux ZIP drivers (need to update docs)
c) Create Linux chipset specific parport drivers

Any assistance to clearing this list most welcome
