Ok! I done so and am putting the result of dmesg at the end of the mail.
Also the shell-complaints while trying to insmod ppa or imm.

Sorry you're rigth. The version number was out of ppa.h. I was just
wondering since the newest version I found on thw web was 1.xx. Does
your answer mean that there are no further versions on the web since
they are all included in the kernel source now?

But that means that I have to switch to 2.2.7 on all machines we are
trying to do something like that. Since we are some sort of college with
a lot of machines and ar also working for a teachers academy I would
prefer a solution under 2.2.5. It's quite difficult to tell a whole country to
switch over to 2.2.7 to get their Iomega ZIP to work.
