If the port is not bidirectional, it will still work, just a bunch slower,
you may want to check out the website
http://www.cs.duke.edu/~reynolds/quickcam/Quickcam_Technical_FAQ.txt
it has some info on the bi-directional/uni-directional parallel ports.

it is recomended, according to Patrick Reynolds, that you obtain a
bidirectional parallel port to use the Quickcam.

I have some code, for linux, that will detect if the camera is set up for
bi-directional, or uni-directional. But the code that I semt you should
detect (in linux) the camera no matter if it's bi or unidirectional.
