    Mmm. The "BUSY timeout" thing is pretty suspicious, for sure.

    Do you get "Timed out" type messages in compatibility mode when you aren't
    using DMA? You could try winding the timeout way up (you can set it at
    runtime with an ioctl, or just hack it in lp_init) and see if that makes a
    difference. At the moment it seems to default to 10 seconds, and I can just
    about imagine that a printer might go longer than that between gulps of data
    under some circumstances.

    Maybe I should try some of this stuff out for myself. :-)
