• Frightful weather

    Unexpectedly, we have snow this morning, so that’s nice. So much for early Spring though — hope it hasn’t caused too much trouble for the confused flora and fauna that jumped the gun. Lots of pristine patches of snow to put footprints in!

  • Form-feed funny

    I wish I could pinpoint the reason for this HP duplex printer having ‘form-feed funnies’. (It’s like a funny five minutes, but for printers.) I’m sure it’s to do with when it runs out of paper mid-job and then I refill its paper tray, but I haven’t caught it red-handed yet.

  • Music too quiet: bad; ReplayGain: good

    I listen to music a lot more since discovering Pandora and getting a SqueezeBox. Now Mugshot’s Music Radar is better for criticising each other’s musical taste I listen to our own music collection on the computer more as well.   • Manipulating PDF documents

    I heard about pdftk today, and installed it to take a look. Quite nice, but I wish there were a nice graphical interface for it.

  • The Prestige

    I saw the excellent film of this first, and immediately wanted to read the book. I hoped I could still get the same amazement from it, already knowing the secrets behind the magic from the film. It’s written very well, and it is an absolutely marvellous story.
